Mabel M. Pettengill

She was born May 12, 1907, in Greeley, Colo., the daughter of John J. and Mary Myrtle (Dent) Beaman. She lived in the Linwood community from 1933 to 1997, when she moved to Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Pettengill was a homemaker. She was a leader with Meadowlark 4-H Club in Leavenworth County. She was also a member of Happy Hour Club, Mackey Merrymaker Club, Villa Eden Community Club, Reno Township Election Board and Kent Homemakers HDU.

She married Carl Torneden on Sept. 24, 1933. He died Nov. 8, 1949. She married Frank Pettengill on May 21, 1951. He died April 7, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Torneden, Overbrook, and John Pettengill, Linwood; two daughters, Myrtle Jones, Tonganoxie, and Nadine Garrison, Oskaloosa; two stepdaughters, Myrle Leavitt, Linwood, and Mary Theno, Tonganoxie; two sisters, Ruth Dent, Lawrence, and Grace Wrightsman, Phoenix; 16 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 37 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Two stepchildren, Walter F. Pettengill and Helen Mills, died earlier.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to American Heart Assn., Center for Basic Center Research or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home.
