From the Lawrence Daily World of Nov. 24, 1902: “Washington – Commissioner of Indian Affairs Jones, in his annual report, estimates that the government, from its foundation to 1890, spent $845,275,290 in fighting, subduing and controlling the Indians of the country and $240,000,000 for the education and care of their children. …

“R.E. Knox has just finished moving his hearse factory from Baldwin to this city and is located pleasantly in comfortable and roomy quarters. He now has plenty of cover for his vehicles and can finish them better than ever before.

“Mr. Knox has surrounded himself with competent assistants and the work will move on without a hitch hereafter. Mr. Knox will also do repairing and rubber tire work and in fact will build or repair anything that goes on wheels.”
