Ottawa ? She was born on a farm northwest of Ottawa, the daughter of the Rev. J.M. and Blanche (Ward) Ward. She graduated from Appanoose High School, after which she taught in Franklin County rural schools before her marriage.

She married Roy W. Browning on May 25, 1927, in Appanoose. He died Sept. 15, 1977.

An Ottawa resident since 1957, Mrs. Browning started the Menninger Bible Classes in Ottawa. She authored one book, âÂÂThe Lighted Trail,â and wrote many poems.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Ottawa and taught the Wifani Class at the church for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Ottawa University WomenâÂÂs Educational Society, a Paul Harris Fellow in the Rotary Club, a former member of the Rotary Anns, and an honorary member of the Ottawa University WomenâÂÂs Club. She was named to the Heritage Honor Roll at Ottawa University, and she and her husband were honored on the Tree of Life plaque at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

Survivors include one son, Roy W. Browning Jr., Topeka; one daughter, Marilyn Keefer, Ottawa; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa and after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
