American Red Cross seeks volunteers

Contact Person: Jasmin Lutz, 843-3550

American Red Cross of Douglas County needs numerous volunteers in several areas.

Jasmin Lutz, health and safety program coordinator, said the organization needed volunteers for marketing and outreach, CPR and First Aid instruction and to help in the event of natural disasters.

American Red Cross needs about 25 to 30 volunteers to work on marketing and outreach. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Volunteers will meet at the organization and learn about its numerous programs, then distribute information at local businesses and other areas in the community.

Currently, American Red Cross only has five volunteer instructors, Lutz said. They have had up to 20 instructors in the past, and Lutz said they are looking to increase their numbers. Volunteers must have previously taken a CPR or First Aid course in the past three years. Sixteen hours of training are required. Instructors are asked to teach five four-hour courses throughout the year. Volunteers must be at least 17 years old.

Disaster volunteers are also needed. Volunteers also go through 16 hours of training. They attend a meeting once a month and are on call one day a month.

To sign up for training, call Lutz.
