IN 1977

A new “close-in” subdivision near the Pinckney neighborhood got a boost from the city commission, which authorized construction of Wisconsin Street from Third to Fourth Streets a first step toward residential development west of Wisconsin.

Lawrence got a needed cloudburst, but it lasted only .20 of an inch of badly needed moisture. The area was far below the normal moisture level and was locked in what many considered a choking drought with potential for major loss and damage.

City commissioners were studying the prospect of more sites for doctors’ offices in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital region. Some feared congestion and “damage to the area” if too many sites were created.

IN 1962

Lawrence had celebrated its first notable rainfall in more than two months overnight and early today with a .72-inch serving that came with near-violent conditions. However, damage was minimal and there was a chance for more rain overnight. The region was a good six inches below the normal and many feared heavy crop, tree and shrub damage.

IN 1902

On May 25, 1902 the Lawrence World reported “The residents of the first ward were entertained last evening by political serenading party that seemed to be well under the influence of some stimulating drug.”
