Cora H. Moye

Services for Cora Christina Henderson Moye, 82, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.

Mrs. Moye died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at her home. She had lived in Lawrence since 1999.

She was born Sept. 20, 1919, on a farm near Minersville, the daughter of Alexander and Nellie Henderson. She attended a one-room country elementary school and graduated from Concordia High School.

She then moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the government during World War II. She transferred to St. Louis with the Rural Electrification Administration. She and her husband lived in Pittsburgh, Pa., while he was working with U.S. Steel and then moved to Belleville, Ill., in 1951.

She co-owned and operated Moye Insurance Agency, Belleville, Ill., for 45 years with her husband. She attended First Presbyterian Church, Lawrence.

She married Doyle G. Moye. He died earlier.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha K. Kermani, Burghaslach, Germany, and Janet R. Olin, Lawrence; a godson, Sasan A. Kermani, Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Pauline Dudney, Topeka, and Ella Christenson, Jamestown; two brothers, Charles Henderson, San Diego, and Oral Henderson, Cherokee Village, Ark.; and a granddaughter.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Disabled American Veterans or to The Shelter Inc. in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
