The University Bridge Club announces winners of its May 18 game, with hosts Carol and Al Smith.The Blue winners were: Karmi Galle, first; John Golden, second; Warren Lesh, third; Howard Stoltenberg, fourth; and Carl Schaake, fifth. The Pink winners were: Roberta Lesh, first; Mona Langlois, second; Hazel Stellmacher, third; Jane Golden, fourth; and Edna Galle, fifth.

The Lawrence 299er Duplicate Bridge Club’s May 15 game was stratified, used the Howell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman. The winners were Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges, followed by Harriett Olson and Artie Shaw. Glenna Herd and Eldon Herd placed third. Winning the C session was Helen Fisher and Clarice Broz, followed by Emily Foster and Albert Ballard.

The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club’s May 17 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North-South winners were Larry Smith and Kendall Wolf, followed by Patt Radford and Sally Taylor. Vince Russo and Brian Baresch placed third. The East-West winners were Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld, followed by Wanda Durbin and Julia Brooks. Phyllis Brownlee and Shirlie Vaughn placed third.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s Monday game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. Eleven tables of players competed for the evening. The North-South winners were James Gunn and Harry Shaffer, followed by Jerry Sloan and Patt Radford. Dan Schultz and Vera Schultz placed third, followed by Steve Goodman and Elizabeth Nice. Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton placed fifth. The East-West winners were Bill Cray and Russell LaForce, followed by David Rhea and Christie Thomas. John Hickey and Jim Kelley placed third, followed by Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver. Julia Brooks and Mona Bell placed fifth. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee placed second in the B session. Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld won the C session.

The Lawrence Country Club Couples Dinner Bridge club announces winners from its May 15 game, with hosts Bill and Carol Smith. The men’s winners were Cub Baer, high, followed by Ned Cushing and Dick Peters. Margaret Daicoff won the ladies’ high, followed by Gerry Smith and Betty Cushing. The LCC Couples Dinner Bridge club meets the third Wednesday of the month.

The Sunny Valley Extension Club met May 14 at Sunnyside School in Sarcoxie Township with 19 members and 1 guest attending. After a business meeting, Richard Wellman, guest speaker, gave a presentation on the history of Wellman Road from 1855 to the present. Refreshments were served by hostesses Marilyn Sharkey and Sharon Newell.

Sunny Valley Extension Club was awarded a Gold Seal and 65 Year Unit Award, as well as honors for leadership, educational activities, membership, and community service by the Jefferson County Education Extension Unit Council at the annual Spring Tea on May 2.

The Sunny Valley Extension Club will sponsor a community potluck dinner at 6 p.m. June 8 at Sunnyside School. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish or dessert, table service, and lawn chairs. Drinks will be provided.
