Student service

To the editor:

Recently our school had the good fortune to be on the receiving end of a community service project performed by a group of Free State High School students. With the help of dedicated faculty sponsors Laurie McLane-Higginson and Peggy Sorenson, the students cleaned up litter, moved sand on our playground, unpacked paper products and food supplies, planted perennials and shrubs, recycled cardboard, trimmed trees and raked mulch in only two hours.

Not only were we amazed by their work ethic, but we were also impressed by how courteous and polite the students were. On behalf of the children and staff of Raintree Montessori School, we would like to thank the sponsors for their efforts in organizing this event and the 17 students for their hard work. It renews our faith in the future to know there are teen-agers in our community who are as hard working and civic-minded as these students.
