UT No. 1 seed; Tech hottest team

? Texas won the regular season title and the No. 1 seed for this week’s Big 12 tournament, but the Longhorns aren’t the league’s hottest team. That is Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders (40-16, 16-11 Big 12) carry a 15-game winning streak into the tournament that begins today at The Ballpark in Arlington.

The Red Raiders’ streak is tied for the longest ever in the conference.

The Red Raiders play Kansas State (28-23, 13-13) in the tournament’s opening game. Nebraska (39-17, 16-11) plays Baylor (34-22, 13-13) in the second game.

There are two games involving instate rivals in the second half of the opening day. Oklahoma (33-23, 16-11) takes on Oklahoma State (37-19, 13-13) and Texas (43-13, 19-8) plays Texas A&M (34-22, 13-14).

The tournament, being played away from Oklahoma City for the first time, continues to Sunday’s championship game.
