KU MedWest now offering chemotherapy services

KU Med now is offering chemotherapy treatment at its Shawnee location.

KU MedWest will serve cancer patients who live near the facility at 7405 Renner Road in Shawnee. Three oncologists are available at KU MedWest five days a week.

KU MedWest also offers diagnostic services such as mammography, ultrasound, radiology and laboratory services, and treatment and consultation services such as medical oncology.

No cause yet determined for Chase Court fire

An investigation continued Tuesday into a Saturday fire that destroyed an apartment building under construction and damaged two others.

No cause has been determined, said Mark Bradford, deputy chief with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.

About 1:20 p.m. Saturday, a fire broke out in the three-story building at Chase Court Apartments, 1942 Stewart Ave.

A team of fire investigators is continuing to interview workers and contractors who have worked for Doug Compton and First Management Inc., the firm that owns the apartment complex, Bradford said.

One of the damaged buildings was occupied at the time of the fire, but no one was injured. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Total damage to all three buildings was listed by fire officials at $600,000.
