The new Holiday Plaza shopping area at 25th and Iowa streets was having its grand opening. Ron Holt was the developer for the center and talked about his project becoming part of a new Miracle Mile of development south of 23rd and Iowa streets. IN 1962

Big Eight Conference faculty representatives visiting Kansas University for the spring sports festival, including the outdoor track meet, reprimanded but did not punish Missouri in the Johnny Roland football recruiting case; gave a vote of confidence to interconference agreements on pre-enrollment certifications (letters of intent); and moved for stiffer rules governing athletic recruiting.

The gasoline seepage that had driven the Sidney Feldman family from its home at 835 Highland Drive was still being traced to see which nearby service station tanks might be responsible.

IN 1902

On May 21, 1902, the Lawrence World reported, “The light company will soon have a ‘main’ wire up between the plant and the district center, which is in the rear of Woodward’s drug store. The new wire will be 500,000 circular mills capacity as against a capacity of 167,800 circular mills of the old wire. A ‘circular mill’ is a unit and is the 800th part of a square inch measured on a cross section of the wire and of course is an index of the amount of electricity the wire can be depended upon to carry. The new wire will show a cross section surface of half a square inch and will be nearly three times the capacity of the old wire.”
