Commissioners to consider state loan to improve water system

Lawrence city commissioners will consider accepting a state loan to improve the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants.

Background

The loan is for $5.6 million. It would be paid back, at 3.79 percent interest, over 20 years for a total city cost of $8.3 million.

Adopt on first reading an ordinance establishing access management requirements for West Sixth Street, Wakarusa Drive to Kansas Highway 10 as authorized by the city commission on May 15.

Adopt on second and final reading the following ordinances:

Enacting a zoning code requirement for the registration of nonconforming uses created by the adoption an ordinance amending the zoning districts map in the city zoning code and repealing Ordinance No. 7511.

Enacting codes and amendments concerning rental of single-family attached or single-family detached dwellings in property zoned for single-family use pursuant to Ordinance No. 7510.

Adopt the following resolutions:

Setting out the findings for the improvement of Congressional Drive, Sixth Street to Overland Drive, and ordering the construction and the creation of the benefit district.

Establishing June 25 for the public hearing for improvements to the Nieder Road and 31st Street intersection.

Approve following site plans subject to conditions:

For Wang Warehouse; Lot 25, Lawrence Industrial Park; located on East 29th Street west of Haskell Avenue.

For Kirk Welding Supply; Lot 26, Lawrence Industrial Park and adjacent vacated railroad right-of-way; located on East 29th Street west of Haskell Avenue.

Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a no-parking zone along both sides of the Clinton Parkway Frontage Road from Olympic Drive east to its end.

Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a no-parking zone along the south side of Third Street between Arkansas and Michigan streets.

Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a “no parking zone” along the south side of 11th Street from Massachusetts Street east 100 feet.
