Commissioners to consider state loan to improve water system
Lawrence city commissioners will consider accepting a state loan to improve the city's water and wastewater treatment plants.
The loan is for $5.6 million. It would be paid back, at 3.79 percent interest, over 20 years for a total city cost of $8.3 million.
Review and approve minutes of various boards and commissions: City Commission meeting of May 14; Sister Cities Advisory Board meeting of April 10; Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority meeting of March 26; Traffic Safety Commission meeting of May 6; and Planning Commission meeting of April 24.
Approve all claims.
Approve drinking establishment license for Wheatfields Bakery Caf904 Vt.
Approve appointment of JoAnn Garrett to the Public Transit Advisory Committee; and Ken McRae to the Mental Health Board.
Bid and purchase items:
Award airport terminal roof replacement to American Roofing in the amount of $89,973.
Award fuel tank replacement for the Public Works Department to the low bidder meeting specifications, Topeka Pump Co., for $49,800.
Award bid for one midsize sedan for the Planning Department to the low bidder meeting specifications, Laird Noller, for $15,499.
Approve purchase of 8.08 acres for $66,500 from Don Westheffer for airport runway protection zone.
Approve purchase of 15.95 acres for $93,570 from Marvin, Greg and Mary Wood for runway protection zone.
Award bid for the Ballard Community Center Electrical Upgrade, 708 Elm, to the low bidder meeting specifications, Huxtable & Associates Inc., for $20,400.
Set bid opening date of June 4 for the Neighborhood Resources Comprehensive Rehabilitation Projects at 2015 Stratford Road and 1621 St. Andrews Drive.
Adopt on first reading an ordinance establishing access management requirements for West Sixth Street, Wakarusa Drive to Kansas Highway 10 as authorized by the city commission on May 15.
Adopt on second and final reading the following ordinances:
Enacting a zoning code requirement for the registration of nonconforming uses created by the adoption an ordinance amending the zoning districts map in the city zoning code and repealing Ordinance No. 7511.
Enacting codes and amendments concerning rental of single-family attached or single-family detached dwellings in property zoned for single-family use pursuant to Ordinance No. 7510.
Adopt the following resolutions:
Setting out the findings for the improvement of Congressional Drive, Sixth Street to Overland Drive, and ordering the construction and the creation of the benefit district.
Establishing June 25 for the public hearing for improvements to the Nieder Road and 31st Street intersection.
Approve following site plans subject to conditions:
For Wang Warehouse; Lot 25, Lawrence Industrial Park; located on East 29th Street west of Haskell Avenue.
For Kirk Welding Supply; Lot 26, Lawrence Industrial Park and adjacent vacated railroad right-of-way; located on East 29th Street west of Haskell Avenue.
Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a no-parking zone along both sides of the Clinton Parkway Frontage Road from Olympic Drive east to its end.
Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a no-parking zone along the south side of Third Street between Arkansas and Michigan streets.
Approve unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a "no parking zone" along the south side of 11th Street from Massachusetts Street east 100 feet.
