Jack C. Haas

He was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Charles W. and Flora K. (Launer) Haas. He attended Lawrence High School. He had lived in Ottawa since 1963, moving there from Lawrence.

Mr. Haas served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theater as a heavy-equipment operator and sharpshooter.

From the mid-1960s to his retirement in 1986, he was owner and operator of Weidner Mobil Oil Service Station, Ottawa. Prior to moving to Ottawa, he was a car salesman at Crystal Motors, Lawrence.

He was a former member of First Christian Church, Lawrence, and a member of VFW Memorial Post No. 5901, Ottawa.

He married Myrtle V. Fairbanks on Jan. 7, 1939, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Bob, Ottawa; a daughter, Shirley Jones, Ottawa; three brothers, Bill, Iola, Floyd, St. Louis, and Lloyd, Lawrence; a sister, Thelma Wymore, Johnson, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. today to noon Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
