Heidelberg, Germany ? Tiger Woods survived a double bogey to stay in contention after the second round of the Deutsche Bank-SAP Open on Saturday.

Colin Montgomerie and Alex Cejka shared the lead, with four players a shot back, and Woods two strokes behind in a tie for seventh.

The Masters champion overcame the double bogey to finish at 5-under-par 67 at St Leon-Rot.

“Today could have been pretty low. I made a lot of putts, but I couldn’t make any on the back nine,” he said. “It’s still difficult to get the ball to the hole because the greens are slow.”

Montgomerie shot a 68 and Cejka matched his two-round total of 10-under 134 with a 70. Darren Clarke, Richard Green, Ian Woosnam and Mark Pilkington were at 9-under.

Woods birdied the first and third holes around a double-bogey 6 at the second, where he drove into the left rough. Five birdies in the next eight holes moved him up the leader board, but he parred 11-17 before a birdie on No. 18.

“I hit a lot of beautiful putts that either lipped out or grazed the edge. If they had fallen, I could have been really low,” he said.
