Cubs call up Prior

Milwaukee Mark Prior will make his debut with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday after only three starts at Triple-A. Prior, the second pick in the 2001 draft, will pitch at home against Pittsburgh. The right-hander was 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A. Prior, 21, had 79 strikeouts in 51 innings.

Canseco: 85 percent of players take steroids

Tampa, Fla. Jose Canseco claims 85 percent of major league baseball players are taking steroids.

“There would be no baseball left if they drug-tested everyone today,” he said during an interview with Fox Sports Net.

Canseco, who announced his retirement earlier in the week, refused to answer specific questions about steroid use, saying he would give details in the book he is writing.

Segui goes on DL

Baltimore Baltimore placed first baseman David Segui on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and purchased Ryan McGuire’s contract from Triple-A Rochester. Segui’s left hand will require surgery. McGuire was hitting .298 for the Red Wings.

Florida infielder injured

San Francisco Florida shortstop Alex Gonzalez left Saturday’s game against San Francisco with a dislocated left shoulder. Gonzalez dove for a grounder and landed awkwardly on the outfield grass.

DeRosa on disabled list

Denver Atlanta placed shortstop Mark DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an injured right ankle. DeRosa sustained ligament damage while rounding first Friday. The Braves called up infielder Jesse Garcia.
