Viola M. Rush

Services for Viola M. Rush, 83, Topeka, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Rush died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at her home.

She was born March 20, 1919, in Marion, Ind., the daughter of Leroy and Goldie L. (Brinner) Rowland.

She lived for many years in Lawrence before moving in the 1970s to Mission, Tex. She returned to the Lawrence area in 2002 because of ill health.

Mrs. Rush was a homemaker and formerly had worked for Miller-Midyett Real Estate and helped develop Lake Dabinawa.

She retired in 1977.

She was a member of Adah Chapter No. 7 Order of Eastern Star, Lawrence, and Good Neighbor Sam’s Camping Club.

She married Sherman J. Rush on Oct. 15, 1937, in Kansas City, Kan. He died Jan. 17, 1994.

Survivors include a son, Fred J. Rush, Topeka; three sisters, Hattie R. Dwyer, Wetmore, Maxine Schroyer, Leavenworth, and Elzina Hitchcock, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Joyce Ann Horgan, died earlier.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends.

The family suggests memorials to the Viola M. Rush Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
