Barbara A. Cawley

Eudora Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara A. Cawley, 64, Eudora, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Eudora. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lawrence.

Mrs. Cawley died Friday, May 17, 2002, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Jan. 9, 1938, in Lawrence, the daughter of Robert Nelson and Lois Bernice (Flory) Gish. She graduated in 1955 from Baldwin High School and attended Kansas University. She moved from Lawrence to Eudora in 1968.

Mrs. Cawley was a homemaker and had worked as a recreation director for the city of Eudora for several years. She also had worked as a bus driver in the Eudora school district for 10 years and at Hercules Inc. for several years. She helped coach girls’ softball with her husband for many years. She retired in the mid-1990s.

She served as past president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the St. Theresa’s Society, Eudora; was president of Eudora High School Booster Club; was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Letter Carriers Postal Service, Lawrence; and was on the Relay for Life organizational committee in Eudora.

She married Robert Cawley on Sept. 16, 1961, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Cawley, Camdenton, Mo., and Kay Becker and Theresa Abel, both of Eudora; a son, Steve Cawley, Gardner; four brothers, Robert Gish, Eureka, Calif., Larry Dean Gish, Lawrence, Don Gish, Overland Park, and Gary Gish, Rancho Bernardo, Calif.; a sister, Judy Logan, Temecula, Calif.; her mother, Lawrence; and eight grandchildren.

A son, Robert J. Cawley Jr., died May 8, 1970.

There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church, Eudora.
