DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke’s Mike Dunleavy, who has not hired an agent, wants to see how the NBA lottery will unfold Sunday, then has a month to make a decision whether to pull his name out of the draft or become a pro.

“I still think I’m going to be back, but if something comes up that I can’t turn down, then it’s something I’m really going to have to consider,” Dunleavy said Thursday.

The 6-10 Dunleavy was picked as one of Duke’s captains for 2002-2003 and it appeared he was sure to return, but that was before he began hearing that he could be taken in the top five of the draft.

He asked his father, Mike Dunleavy Sr., a former NBA player and head coach, and Mike Krzyzewski, to confirm his standing among league executives.

“I wouldn’t be sitting here right now if it were a matter of me just being a lottery pick or a top 10 pick,” said Dunleavy, a second-team All-American. “We found out it’s going to be pretty high.”

The junior said the timing of his decision isn’t connected with his father possibly being in line for another NBA coaching job.

“This has nothing to do with him taking a job and drafting me. That situation wouldn’t work out for either of us and something I would not want to do,” Dunleavy said.

Associated Press national player of the year Jay Williams and Carlos Boozer are also leaving the Blue Devils after their junior seasons. However, both said before the season they planned to turn pro early.

“Carlos and (Jay) did a good thing, they planned ahead for this. I didn’t because I didn’t foresee this,” Dunleavy said.
