FSHS teacher reports battery by student

A 16-year-old Free State High School student reportedly battered a teacher in early May, Lawrence Police said.

The boy had been removed from the classroom of the female physical education teacher for behaving in a disruptive manner, but he kept returning to the area, Lawrence Police Sgt. Paul Fellers said. The first time the teacher reminded the student he wasn’t supposed to be there, he made an inappropriate comment and then returned a few minutes later, Fellers said.

This time, he tried to get into the locker room. When the teacher told him to leave, he bumped into her “in an aggressive manner to intimidate her,” Fellers said.

The police report noted that school officials had suspended the student, but Fellers didn’t know if the suspension was related to the battery, which occurred the morning of May 2.

The teacher didn’t file a police report until May 10, and the police didn’t make it available until Thursday.

Fellers said the student had not been arrested.
