Moore wins Richmond Open

Richmond, Va. Monday qualifier Patrick Moore made a 15-foot eagle from the fringe on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over John Maginnes in the Buy.com Tour’s Richmond Open.

Moore, the 32-year-old former University of North Carolina player who spent last year on the Canadian Tour, shot a 1-under 71 for a 20-under 268 total on The Dominion Club course.

“All that work that you put in on the range and the putting green and basically it comes down to about three seconds,” said Moore, who earned $76,500 along with a full exemption on the tour through the 2003 season. “This week was probably the first time in more than two years that I could stand over the ball and feel comfortable about where it’s going. It’s the first week I’ve felt in control. It’s nice now. I can make a schedule.”

Moore is the 14th Monday qualifier to win in the 13-year history of the tour, and the second this year, following Jace Bugg in the Arkansas Classic.
