Wolf Creek plant resumes power

Wolf Creek Generating Station resumed electricity production Friday morning.

The nuclear power plant shut down Wednesday because of a low water level in one of its four steam generators. While preparing to perform a regularly scheduled surveillance, one of the plant’s four main feedwater regulating valves was closed, isolating the water to the affected steam generator. The low water level in the steam generator resulted in an automatic plant shutdown.

All of the plant systems operated as designed during shutdown, company officials said. The affected circuitry card was replaced.

Operators will continue to increase power until the plant is at 100 percent power. Plant personnel expect to resume full-power operations this weekend.
