Programs offer local continuing education

If you’re looking for learning opportunities that don’t already require computer proficiency or foreign-language know-how, city and county resources offer classes tailored for students ages 55 and older. Here are some offerings:

Douglas County Senior Services: There are May classes about tea, Victorian decorating and a new walking club. While enrollment may be limited, many classes are free. It also offers sewing, beginning conversational Spanish, Internet and computer use for beginners, tai chi and “armchair travel,” among many other offerings. Learn more by calling 842-0543.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital: The hospital offers classes addressing health needs such as checking cholesterol or quitting smoking. Many classes are free. Call 749-5800 for more information.
