The Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council is conducting an alumnae search to identify past members of Girl Scouts so they may be included in the 90th anniversary celebration. Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council serves 13 counties in northeast Kansas, including Brown, Clay, Douglas, Geary, Jackson, Jefferson, Marshall, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Riley, Shawnee, Wabaunsee and Washington.

Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council is host to a council-wide celebration June 1 in Topeka. There are a variety of Girl Scout program opportunities planned, including demonstrations, crafts, games and hikes.

Girl Scouts of Kaw Valley Council invites all Girl Scout alumnae to once again be a part of the Girl Scout family by joining the anniversary celebration. Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, had its semi-annual elections on April 23. The following boys will serve as officers: Josh Cosgrove, senior patrol leader; Paul Bireta, assistant senior patrol leader; Jack Berkowitz, troop guide; Evan Tedlock, quartermaster; David Long, scribe; Tristan Wagner, OA representative; Andres Ramos, historian; Nathan Wycoff, chaplain’s aide; Phillip Gilreath, librarian, and Will Sharp, instructor. Justin Deaver, Mason McCurdy, David Oelhausen and Peter Tuttle were elected patrol leaders. They will be assisted by Henry Reiske, Cyril Cook and Wes Hinkel, patrol guides.

This year’s Scouting for Food Drive collected 4 tons of food to be distributed to various Lawrence pantries. Some of the units that helped were Packs 3056, 3057, 3064 and Troops 64 and 65.

Boy Scout Troop 56, chartered to the Lecompton United Methodist Church has its April campout at Clinton Lake. During the campout, Scouts rode their bicycles on the trails and attended a nature presentation on snakes. Those who participated were: Phil Foos, Sean Van Dyke, Luke Zahniser and Seth Zahniser. Adult leaders were Steve Zahniser, scoutmaster, and Nelson Van Dyke, assistant scoutmaster. Anna Zahniser also attended.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 3072, chartered to Quail Run School, participated April 28 in a service project for Community Living Opportunities, which provides housing for individuals with developmental disabilities. The boys, along with their families, planted flowers and cleaned around the entryway to the house. Persons who participated were: Mary Margaret Burton, Tim Gibson, Sam Hearnen, Luke Pierce, Logan Bannister, Diane Bannerman Juracek, Kyle Juracek, Brandon Juracek, Michael Rosa, Mark Haas, Kelly Kangeisser, Brian Smith, Delbert Mapes, Alicia Kauffman, Sue Hunt, Tom Stalanker and Tim Burton.

Tiger Cubs from Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, had a Go-See-It activity at Bob Grent’s home. Members observed Grent, a glassblower, as he worked. Those who participated include: Mason Robinson, Jamie Braden, Spencer Wilson, Johnathan Roberts, Christopher Sloan, Ian Grent, William Thompson, Nicholas Crowe and Dante Tucker. Special guest was Dakota Zinn, who will be joining the pack.
