LHS honors

To the editor:

In light of the events of the past week, I would like the opportunity to share with the Lawrence community the positive side of some of the events scheduled for the end of the school year.

Many students have received awards for their achievements accomplished in athletics, drama, forensics, music and science over the past school year. There have been hundreds of volunteer hours associated with these awards. We need to encourage and applaud them for being involved in these areas while maintaining a high GPA.

As parents and members of the Lawrence community, we need to show support by our involvement in their activities. This coming week there will be three opportunities for the community to attend free concerts highlighting the talents of the LHS music department. Beginning on Monday, with an orchestra concert, directed by Ms. Rachel Dirks, followed by a choral concert, directed by Ms. Cathy Crispino and concluded on Wednesday with a concert performed by the LHS Band, directed by Mr. Michael Jones. I might add that the band will be celebrating its 80th birthday this coming year with many other events added to its busy schedule just for this occasion.

I encourage each of you to attend these and the many other events that lead up to the graduation of the class of 2002. Remember It’s a great day to be a Lion!

Cindy Monshizadeh,
Lawrence
