4-H and FCE news

The Eudora 4-H Club met May 5 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, where it helped pick up trash.

Jessica Brecheisen talked about her photo of a waterfall she entered at the fair. Jordan Ballock told members where he finds the bugs he uses in his entomology project. Ashley Moran informed club members about the origination of Cinco de Mayo, a holiday celebrated in Mexico. She provided a pi for the younger members to break open. Melissa Emery demonstrated a line dance with others who knew it. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a pizza dinner.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 3 at St. Paul United Church of Christ. The junior officers will be in charge of the meeting.

Members were reminded of the following dates: cooking project meeting, today; horse project meeting, Wednesday; geology project meeting, 7 p.m. Thursday; fund-raiser committee meeting, Thursday; Bromelsick Memorial, 10 a.m. May 25; and Sheep and Swine show, June 1. Sheep and swine weigh-in will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Monday.

The Kanwaka FCE unit will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of Marcella Anderson. Co-hostess will be Hazel Nitcher. Muriel Maness will present the program “Who Moved My Cheese?” Members are asked to bring a covered dish for a potluck lunch.

The group will visit the Lecompton Grade School at 1 p.m. and donate an American flag for the multi-purpose room. The group will tour the outdoor nature center and view the computer program that the Kanwaka unit donated to the school last year. The unit also will visit the John Dewey Learning Center and tour the new green house.
