A 29-year-old man who escaped last month from the Douglas County Jail was arrested Friday evening in Oklahoma, a Douglas County Sheriff’s department spokeswoman said.

Vernon Dean Folks, who slipped away from jail last month while a jailer was releasing another inmate for a work detail, was arrested about 7 p.m. during a routine traffic stop in Checotah, Okla.

Folks must now go through an extradition hearing before he can be sent back to Douglas County. He had served one months of a six-month sentence on misdemeanor charges of battery and fleeing to elude officers.
