Pullins Qualifies: Lawrence’s Jerry Pullins finished first among the amateurs at Powerman Tennessee, a duathlon event held last Sunday near Nashville. Pullins, a former Kansas University track athlete, qualified for Team USA that will compete in the ITU Duathlon World Championships in August in Weyer, Austria. Pullins’ time in the biking and running event was three minutes faster than any other amateur. He finished fifth overall.

International Qualifier: Cole Young, an Overland Park native who competes for Lawrence’s Jayhawk Diving Club, finished second at the National Junior Meet last weekend in Baton Rouge, La., and qualified for an international meet later this month is Ottawa, Canada. Young, 14, finished second on the one-meter board and fifth at three meters.

BU Basketball Camps: Baker University basketball camps for youths in grades 4-9 are scheduled July 8-11 in Baldwin with morning and afternoon sessions available. For information, call Rick Weaver at (785) 594-8422.

Three Share Low: Tom Dennis, Mike Naegele and Keith Wallace all shot 81s for the low score in last Sunday’s wind-blown Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Roger Gemeinhardt carded an 82. In net, Cliff Churchill was low with a 68. Jeff Miller had a 70 and Mike Stein a 71.

Three City Winners: Lawrence’s Bonnie Eagle, Carol McFall and Dee Boeck were age-group 10K winners in last Saturday’s Heart and Sole Run in Olathe. Wally Brawner of Tonganoxie and Paul Heitzman of Eudora were age-group winners in the 5K. Also, Lawrence’s Brian McFall was second in his 5K age group and Andy Woolard third in his 10K age division.

LHS Speed Camp: Lawrence High track coaches Jerry Skakal and Scott Stidham will hold their Speed and Jump Camp from May 28-June 20. For information, call Stidham at 832-5050 or e-mail to sstidham@usd497.org.

Deel Earns Mat Award: Baldwin High junior Nathan Deel won the Most Falls Award at the Lawrence Coyotes wrestling tournament while helping the Sunflower Gold Wrestling Club of Topeka finish in a tie for third with the host Coyotes. In compiling a 3-1 record, Deel recorded two falls, both under 20 seconds. Team Central of Missouri won the eight-team tourney.

LHS Hoops Camps: Lawrence High boys basketball coach Chris Davis will hold his annual one-week camp June 3-7. A morning session is available for fourth- through eighth-graders and an afternoon session for ninth- through 12th-graders. Lawrence High’s workout camp will start June 15. Saddle Bronc Champ: Ralley Smith, a Lawrence High junior, won the saddle bronc competition last weekend at the Phillipsburg High Rodeo. Smith’s next rodeo is Saturday at McPherson.

Conroy Seventh: Randy Conroy of Lawrence shot 73-73146 and finished seventh in the Kansas Mid-Amateur golf championship on Monday and Tuesday at Topeka’s Shawnee Country Club. Chae Yi of Topeka won the tournament with a 70-70140.

Fisher Ace: David Fisher of Carbondale used a five-wood to record a hole-in-one Tuesday on the 142-yard No. 8 hole at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Witnesses were Taylor Fisher and Dustin Feuerborn.

Spray Bike Titlist: Larry Spray of Lawrence won the men’s ages 50 & over sport division at last weekend’s Midwest Fat Tire Series bicycle races in Neosho, Mo.

Youth Soccer Honoree: Lawrence fourth grader Coulter Vestal was named the most outstanding performer in last weekend’s U-10 Classic League soccer tournament at YSI.

Veritas Honorees: Paul Kempf and Bethany Schwaab were named the most outstanding basketball players at Veritas Christian School during the 2001-2002 season. Lauren Strom earned the award for volleyball. Kempf also picked up the offensive award in football. Blake Sutherlin pocketed the defensive prize. Most improved recognition went to Matt Windheuser (football), Mark Randtke (boys basketball), Stephanie Bell (girls basketball) and Kim Vann (volleyball). Other awards winners were Isaac Willems, Micah Slankard, Allan Blair, Keziah Thompson and Maddie Fister.

Manning’s Camp: Danny Manning’s annual summer basketball camp is scheduled July 29-Aug. 2 at Sport 2 Sport. The camp open to youths entering grades two through nine this fall. For information, call Angie McClure at 841-7550.

Wilson Indy Winner: Dick Wilson of Lawrence was first among the 60 competitors in the ages 70-74 division at last Saturday’s Indianapolis 500 Festival Half-Marathon. Wilson’s time of 1:33:01 computed to an average mile time of 7:06.
