Grateful recipient

To the editor:

I wanted to take a moment to extend my sincere gratitude to an outstanding group of people who have done so much for the Lawrence community. The St. Patrick’s Day committee comes together each year in November to begin planning one of the most successful (and fun) parades to hit Lawrence. This year, our organization, the Douglas County Infant-Toddler Coordinating Council (ICC), was fortunate enough to be chosen as the beneficiary for the committee’s fund-raising efforts. The ICC provides services and support to children, ages birth to 3, who are experiencing challenges due to disability or developmental delay.

I was, and still am, totally amazed and overwhelmed at this hardworking group’s decision to the children of Lawrence. In the last 15 years, the St. Patrick’s Day committee has raised more than $200,000 for various children’s organizations. This year they presented the ICC with a check for $300,00. The time, planning and fun that goes into organizing the events (Shamrock Shuffle, celebrity and sports auction, dart tournament, queen coronation, benefit concert and, of course, the parade) is phenomenal. Community involvement and support for all the events were wonderful as well. So, I would like to deliver a huge and heartfelt thank you to all members of the St. Patrick’s Day committee, and to all the citizens of Lawrence who contributed to, participated in and enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day events and parade. We look forward to supporting and enjoying your outstanding efforts for years to come!
