Students suspended for hazing

The public school district on Tuesday suspended at least 15 Lawrence High School seniors found to have hazed sophomores.

Disciplinary action follows numerous parent complaints about a paddling session last weekend in which more than a half dozen sophomores were spanked by seniors using wood boards and paddles.

The spank line is an annual hazing tradition at LHS.

LHS Principal Dick Patterson handed down two-day suspensions for all the seniors found to have been part of the hazing.

The students also forfeit Senior Week privileges including the opportunity to attend Thursday’s senior barbecue and Friday’s “skip day.”

Across town, Free State High School Principal Joe Snyder says he’s not received reports of hazing among students at Free State.

There have been reports of student vandalism on and off the Free State campus.
