Severe weather strikes Lawrence, northeast Kansas

A first round of storms Sunday night moved north of Interstate 70, hitting Lawrence about 11:15 p.m.

Much of northeast Kansas was under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. today, and there was still a chance throughout the night that more rain would fall in Douglas County, said Phillip Bills, a meteorologist with the Topeka National Weather Service.

The chance of rain continues through Wednesday, he said.

“We’re in a pretty unstable pattern here,” Bills said. “In the meantime, we are still sucking up moisture, and we will see showers off and on.”

Today, expect highs in the upper 80s, Bills said, and lows tonight in the 60s.
