Valley Forge Park updates its history

Valley Forge, Pa. Hoping to turn joggers, bikers and inline skaters at Valley Forge National Historical Park into students of the Revolutionary War, park officials are planning $100 million in upgrades over the next four years.

Changes will begin with a $1 million renovation of the park’s visitors’ center. The project also will include exhibits on the Valley Forge encampment, maps and a timeline of the war, as well as food and gift shops.

The new welcome center complex, slated for completion in September, will also feature a refurbished auditorium and education center. By 2006, park officials hope to have a multitude of other changes in place, including a museum building, a working farm and a full library of historical artifacts not presently on display now.
