Benjamins take fourth in buddy tournament

Jerry Benjamin and Jason Benjamin, both of Lawrence Bass Club, teamed to catch four bass that weighed 12.36 pounds and placed fourth at the Kansas BASS Chapter Federation Buddy Circuit tournament last Sunday at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Kelly Hoover and Gerald Martin, both of LBC, caught one bass that weighed 5.18 pounds and finished 16th. Phil Alterman and Scott Johns, also of LBC, caught one bass that weighed 3.58 pounds and were 22nd.

Leawood pair wins Melvern crappie tourney

Jim Borders and Pollie Kennedy, both of Leawood, caught 10 crappie that weighed 9.71 pounds, and won the Melvern Lake Crappie Busters tournament two weeks ago.

Frank Bradford, Leavenworth, and Sean Owens, McLouth, were second with 5.68 pounds. Merril Coleman and Park Hubbs, both of Topeka, were third with 5.31 pounds.

Lynn Beckwith, Ozawkie, and Joe Crai, Topeka, caught the largest crappie, a 1.81-pounder.

Walleye winners

Rich Farmer and Doug Duncan, both of Wichita, caught eight fish that weighed 25.4 pounds and won last Sunday’s Kansas Walleye Association tournament at Cheney Lake. Mike Cooper and Wayne Loy, both of Beloit, were runners-up with seven walleye that weighed 22.9 pounds.

Tourney titlists

Brian Kingsley and David Berkowitz combined to win the Lawrence Fishing and Outdoors Club tournament last Sunday at Leavenworth State Lake. John Laddusaw and Randy Russell finished second. Laddusaw caught the largest bass. It measured 2014 inches.

Catfish champs

Larry Haag and Virgil Brown, both of Olpe, caught six fish weighing 34.75 pounds and won last Saturday’s US-CATS Kansas division catfish tournament at Council Grove Lake.

Coffey Lake reopens

Coffey County State Lake, closed to boat fishermen since the Sept. 11 attacks, reopened on Saturday morning. The lake is located adjacent to the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant near Burlington.
