KU symphony, choirs to combine for concert

The KU Symphony Orchestra and the Combined KU Choirs will perform a pair of symphonies at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Lied Center.

Under the direction of conductor Brian Priestman, the orchestra will perform Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 5 in B Flat Major.” The KU choral group and the symphony orchestra will perform “Symphony No. 1 in C Minor,” known as “Resurrection,” by Gustav Mahler.

Participating vocal ensembles include the Chamber Choir, Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Chorale, Concert Choir and University Singers. Soloists are soprano Soyoun Lim and mezzo-soprano Holly White.

Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Lied Center Box Office, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall Box Office, 864-3982; and the Student Union Activities Box Office, 864-3477.

Journalists to read poetry at bookstore

Two journalist poets will read their works at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dusty Bookshelf, 708 Mass.

Featured are John Mark Eberhart, who edits the book page of the Kansas City Star, and Stephen Clay Dearborn, who is on the Associated Press staff.

The free event is open to the public.
