Representatives named to security committee

State Reps. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, and Lee Tafanelli, R-Ozawkie, have been appointed to the Select Committee on Kansas Security.

Tafanelli, a lieutenant colonel in the Kansas Army National Guard, will serve as vice chairman of the 18-member committee.

The House committee will continue the Legislature’s ongoing review of public safety issues in the state.

KU sets final examinations

Kansas University has announced the following final examinations:

Henriette Javorek-Lapczyna, French and Italian, “The Papes and Sous-papes of Avignon: A Sociocultural Analysis of Contemporary French Theatre,” 8:45 a.m. April 2, 2066 Wescoe.

Arpad Benyi, mathematics, “Bilinear Singular Integrals and Pseudodifferential Operators,” 11:30 a.m. April 18, 306 Snow.

Volunteer group organizes ‘Good Neighbor’ activities

April 1 to 7 is “Be a Good Neighbor Week” for Kansas State Grange, and members in Douglas County will be participating in a variety of volunteer activities.

New Century Grange, Douglas County, will serve dinner at the Salvation Army, 946 N.H., from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

They also will make lap pillows for the Visiting Nurses Assn. and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Department.

In addition, the grange will present some of its activities and events in a display April 7-13 at the Lawrence Public Library.

New Century Grange has about 25 members in the Lawrence area, including Baldwin, Lone Star, Topeka, Overbrook, Ottawa, Spring Hill and Wamego. Debra Douglass, rural Baldwin, is president of the group that meets the third Monday of each month at the Kanwaka Township Hall.
