Presbyterian Manor names new executive director

Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America has named Rhonda Parks executive director of Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, effective Monday.

Parks, a registered nurse, was chief executive officer and vice president of operations at Retirement Management Co., a Lawrence-based investment company, from 1995 to 2001. Parks replaces Dorothy Devlin, who is retiring after 20 years at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America officials will introduce Parks to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor residents Monday during a 10 a.m. ceremony.

Benefit: Library’s spring book sale set to begin Thursday

The Friends of the Lawrence Public Library’s Spring Book Sale will get under way Thursday night for Friends members.

Members will get first pick of thousands of titles from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the library’s garage, Seventh and Kentucky streets, and inside at the library’s gallery.

The sale will open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 6.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 7, all books will be half-price. Patrons can purchase a bag of books for $5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 8 and for $3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 11.

Books will be given away from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13.

Event: Stovall slated to speak to Lawrence Rotary Club

Carla Stovall, the Kansas attorney general and Republican candidate for governor, will speak to the Lawrence Rotary Club on Monday.

The meeting begins at noon at Hereford House, 4931 W. Sixth St.

Stovall plans to discuss her accomplishments during her eight years as attorney general.
