All-Stars edge Globetrotters

? Oregon’s Frederick Jones had 15 points, and the NABC All-Stars snapped a two-game losing streak to the Harlem Globetrotters with an 86-76 victory Friday night in the Roundball Shootout.

The game, held in conjunction with the Final Four, was played at Georgia Tech’s Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Georgia Tech’s Tony Akins, playing on his home court, added 14 for the all-stars. Keiron “Sweet Pea” Shine led the Globetrotters with 20 points.

It was the third straight year a team of college all-stars faced the world-famous basketball showmen, and it was the first time the Globetrotters lost. Previously, two teams of college players faced each other.

During halftime, Clarence “Big House” Gaines, who won 828 games as coach at Winston-Salem State, was honored for his contributions to basketball.
