She was born June 14, 1926, in Dorrance, the daughter of Robert and Emma (Cook) Kaufman.

Mrs. Freeman worked at the Hercules-Sunflower Army Ammunitions Plant. She owned and operated Irene’s Beauty Salon for many years. She retired as a cook with Lawrence public schools.

She married Ernest Nelson Freeman on March 14, 1947, in Lawrence. He died March 12, 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Jorgensen, Lawrence; a brother, Melvin Kaufman, Lawrence; two sisters, Eleanor Shorney, Belle-ville, and Donna Wiley, Law-rence; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
