? Kirsten Milhoan tossed a one-hit shutout to lift Kansas University to a softball doubleheader sweep of Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon.

After Kansas edged the Razorbacks, 2-1, in the opener, Milhoan allowed only a single by AU’s Donica White and the Jayhawks captured the nightcap, 3-0.

In the first game, Kansas struck in the first inning when Shelly Musser led off with a double and scored on a single by twin sister Christi. After Arkansas knotted the score in the bottom of the sixth off KU starter Kara Pierce, the Jayhawks scored the decisive run in the top of the seventh when Arkansas committed three errors.

Christi Musser and Lindsey Weinstein had two hits apiece to pace KU’s seven-hit attack. Pierce picked up her ninth win in 13 decisions. Freshman Serena Settlemier hurled the seventh inning for her second save.

In the second game, Kansas gave Milhoan the only run she needed in the fourth inning when Christi Musser reached on an error and scored on Megan Urquhart’s double.

KU added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh when Sandy Smith singled in a run and later scored on Shelly Musser’s triple over the left fielder’s head.

Milhoan, a junior right-hander who has struggled with her control in the past, didn’t walk a single batter in boosting her record to 4-1.

Kansas (19-12) will play host to Texas in a noon twinbill on Saturday at Jayhawk Field.

Arkansas’ record slipped to 24-12.
