Richard George Schwartz

Mr. Schwartz died Friday, March 22, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1944, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lawrence M. and Nadine (Weber) Schwartz. He grew up in the Paola area and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Grade School. He graduated from Paola High School in 1962.

Mr. Schwartz received his bachelor’s degree in journalism at Kansas University in 1967. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

He worked in the furniture business. He most recently worked as a factory representative at Isenhour Furniture, Old Hickory and Leathercraft in the southeastern region of the United States. During the late 1970s, he lived in Paola, where he served as vice president of the family-owned Citizens State Bank. He has lived in Nashville and Fairhope, Ala., before moving to Daphne, Ala.

Mr. Schwartz was a member of St. Francis Church, Fairhope, Ala.

He married Jacqueline R. Van Eman in 1968, in Oak Park, Ill. He later married Jamie E. Bennett.

Survivors include five sons, James Michael, Dallas, Joel Benjamin and William Andrew, both of Lawrence, David Amos, New Orleans, and Thomas, of the home; two daughters, Emily Schwartz, Cambridge, Mass., and Leigh Schwartz, San Diego; a stepson, Josh Palmer, New Orleans; his father, Paola; three brothers, Lawrence M. Jr. and David J., both of Prairie Village, and William T., Lexington, Va.; two sisters, Jan Michele Peakes, Leawood, and Jean Renee Barlow, Little Rock, Ark.; and a granddaughter.

A rosary service will be at 6 p.m. today at Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.
