Braves bash Royals, 5-1

? Andruw Jones and Mark DeRosa homered and Albie Lopez allowed one run in six innings as the Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1 Tuesday night.

Lopez (2-2), in his sixth and final start of the spring, limited Kansas City to five hits and struck out two.

Jones gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead in the third with a one-out homer off Royals starter Paul Byrd, a former Brave.

Kansas City tied the game in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Chuck Knoblauch, but the Braves responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead.

DeRosa led off with a home run to left field, and Rafael Furcal doubled and scored on a two-out single by Chipper Jones.

Byrd (1-2) lasted 51¼3 innings, giving up seven hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one.

Atlanta added two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Javy Lopez and Wilson Betemit. Lopez drove in Julio Franco, who had tripled with one out, and Betemit brought Lopez home.

John Foster, Mike Remlinger and Tim Spooneybarger each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Braves.

Michael Tucker, another former Brave, went 2-for-3 for Kansas City.
