* Lawrence Humane Society raises funds with cookbook

A cookbook benefiting the Lawrence Humane Society will be available in late April.

The cookbook, “Dogbone Wishes and Catnip Dreams, Recipes for People and Their Pets,” is the first cookbook created by the Lawrence Humane Society. The cookbook has about 250 recipes and will cost $10. All proceeds benefit the Lawrence Humane Society.

 Continuing education: Media law seminar features ‘L.A. Confidential’ author

Kansas City, Mo. Â James Ellroy, an author whose works include “L.A. Confidential,” will speak April 19 at a media law seminar in Kansas City, Mo.

The 15th annual Media and the Law Seminar, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, is a one-day event organized by Kansas University Continuing Education and the Media and the Law Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Assn.

Other speakers will include Chip Babcock, former attorney for Oprah Winfrey, and Lee Levine, co-author of “Newsgathering and the Law.”

 Humanities: Hall Center sponsoring oral history workshop

“Learning to Hear the Stories III: The Borders of Memory,” a workshop on oral history and traditions, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in the Kansas Union at Kansas University.

Speakers are Mary Marshall Clark of Columbia University, director of the oral history project on the World Trade Center attacks; Doris Saunders, Chicago, author of “Ancestor Hunting”; Alhaji Papa Susso, director of the Koriya Musa Center for Research in Oral Tradition in the Republic of Gambia, West Africa; and Ross Talarico, California, author of “Spreading the Word: Poetry and the Survival of Community in America.”
