Spurs stretch winning streak to 12

Duncan sparks San Antonio's surge against Miami

? The way things are going for the San Antonio Spurs, they then can handle any game plan an opponent throws at them.

Just two days after beating Dallas, the team with the league’s best offense and worst defense, the Spurs earned their 12th straight victory by beating the Miami Heat, 89-79, Saturday night.

“Another game, another win,” said Tim Duncan, who led the Spurs with 23 points and 11 rebounds. “We’ve got a great streak going here.”

The Heat’s league-worst offense was no match for San Antonio’s defense, which held the Heat to 41-percent shooting. Miami, beaten at home by Indiana on Friday night, trails the Pacers by four games for the Eastern Conference’s eighth and final playoff spot.

“We’re not getting the energy we need from our team at all right now,” Heat coach Pat Riley said. “Every time I went back to our starters we lost momentum.”

Five Spurs scored in double figures, and San Antonio went on a 16-6 run to end the third quarter and take command.

Duncan started the run with a dunk after receiving a tip-pass from David Robinson. Spurs guard Tony Parker hit a banking 15-footer that fell just as the shot clock expired and followed it up with a steal and layup to give San Antonio a 71-58 lead heading to the final period.

The Spurs led by double figures the rest of the way.
