Show of respect

To the editor:

I feel moved to let the citizens of Lawrence know how they touched so many hearts last week. I was there to attend my brother-in-law’s funeral. As the funeral wound its way through town, almost every car pulled over and stopped, and most turned on their lights. The police officers that were aiding in traffic control stood beside their cars at attention. They remained this way for the entire funeral procession.

Many of the funeral-goers commented on how awed we were with the respect that you all showed. I’m not sure you realize what a rarity it is, and on behalf of my family I thank you one and all for the respect you showed for my sister and her family as we dealt with this terrible ordeal.
