Latin American film festival starts Saturday

The Kansas University Center of Latin American Studies will present a feature film festival at 2 p.m. Saturdays in the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art at KU.

The lineup includes “The Day Silence Died,” from Bolivia, presented by Will Holliday, doctorate student in history, Saturday; “The Death of a Bureaucrat,” Cuba, presented by Ximena Sosa-Buchholz, Latin American studies professor, April 6; “Between Pancho Villa and a Naked Woman,” Mexico, presented by Tomas Chacon, doctorate student in Spanish and Portuguese, April 13; “Woman on Top,” Brazil, presented by Walter Clark, music and dance professor, April 20; and “Zoot Suit,” Mexico-United States, presented by Chacon, April 27.

The films are free and open to the public.

Speaker to describe culture, lore of Africa

Topeka  The cultural heritage and lore of the Mandinka of Gambia, West Africa, will be presented by Alhaja Papa Susso at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Henderson Learning Resources Center at Washburn University, 17th and Jewell streets.

Susso is a master kora player and accomplished storyteller.

The program is free and open to the public.
