Club news

Rebekah Lodges of District No. 3 will meet at 9 a.m. March 30 at the Pinecrest II Clubroom, 924 Walnut St., Eudora. District President Katherine Neis, Eudora, will preside. Natalie Hoffman, vice president of the Kansas Rebekah Assembly, will be the instructor. Lodges in the district are Minerva No. 146 of Eudora, Leavenworth No. 520 of Leavenworth, and Saratoga No. 660 of Bonner Springs.

The Lawrence 99er Duplicate Bridge Club’s March 13 game was stratified, used the Howell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The winners were led by Julia Ward and Don Brennaman, followed by Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges. Barb Hamilton and Bill Hamilton placed third, followed by Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth. Denise Donly and Elizabeth Maher placed first in the C session, followed by Helen Fisher and Clarice Broz.

The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club’s March 15 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North South winners were Chris Lane and Shirley Reese, followed by Barb Hamilton and Don Brennaman. Chuck Hedges and Kent McCullough placed third. Carol Ball and Frances Vogel won the C session.

The East West winners were Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld, followed by Don Daugherty and Harry Talley. Shirlie Vaughn and Virginia Eddy placed third.

The North South winners were Klee Zaricky and Chris Lane, followed by Glenna Herd and Eldon Herd. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed third, followed by Jerry Ungar and Grant Woods. Brian Baresch and Bill Schutzel placed fifth.

The East West winners were Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld, followed by Shirley Reese and Yvonne Hedges. Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn placed third, followed by Lois Clark and Russell LaForce. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee placed fifth. Don Bush and Robert Huffman placed second in the C session.

Club members had a farewell party for Brian Baresch. He is moving to Fort Worth, Tex. They enjoyed cake, dessert and coffee.

The University Bridge Club met March 16. The hosts were Don and Jean Whitaker.

The Blue team winners were: Warren Lesh, first; Al Smith, second; Phil Hawley, third; Don Whitaker, fourth, and Carl Schaake, fifth.

The Pink team winners were: Iva Kolebar, first; Isabel Schaake, second; Jean Whitaker, third; Gini Wigington, fourth; and Hazel Stellmacher, fifth.
