Christy Sr.

He was born May 8, 1918, in Meriden, the son of Roy Dick and Ruth (York) Christy. He was a lifelong resident of the Meriden and Topeka area.

Mr. Christy served in the Pacific Arena in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Air Force for 25 years in the procurement field, performing duties as a purchasing agent, buyer and contracting officer. He transferred to the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked 10 years until his retirement. While with the postal service, he served as chief of the procurement division. Following his retirement, he continued to farm in Meriden.

He was a former member of Meriden Lodge No. 235, A.F. & A.M., Meriden Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10815 and Loyal Order of the Moose No. 555, Topeka.

He married Myrtle O. Reed on Aug. 7, 1937, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Ronald D., Waxahachie, Tex., John W. “Rocky,” Topeka, and Russell “Rick” Jr., Salina; two daughters, M.E. Christy “Chris” Glenn, Meriden, and Tamara L. Whorton, Topeka; 10 grandchildren. five stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
