Beverly Hills, Calif. Â Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton have adopted a Cambodian boy, the actress’ father, Jon Voight, told reporters.

The 26-year-old actress took custody of the baby on Sunday in Africa, where she is shooting a film. Thornton, 46, was in the United States.

Jolie, who won a supporting-actress Oscar for “Girl, Interrupted,” and Thornton were married in Las Vegas in May 2000. Thornton stars with Academy Award nominee Halle Berry in “Monster’s Ball.”

Joel delays show following illness

St. Petersburg, Fla. Â Billy Joel and Elton John postponed a concert in their “Face to Face” tour after Joel became ill.

The singer is suffering from “acute upper respiratory infection and laryngitis,” and has been feeling under the weather for several days, said Max Loubiere, his tour manager.

Arena officials said Monday’s concert will be rescheduled. Ticketholders were advised to keep their tickets.

Joel’s doctor advised against performing Saturday night, but the artist did so anyway, singing to a sold-out, 3 1/2-hour concert, Loubiere said.

Show taps North Carolina talent

Asheville, N.C. Â Hundreds of extras are needed for a television project starring Andie MacDowell that will be shot in the Asheville area.

“If a series starts there, (Asheville) would be a production hub,” said Bill Arnold, director of the state Film Commission.

The first wave starts this weekend, when makers of the MacDowell TV pilot “Jo” hold an open call for extras Saturday and Sunday at the Asheville Mall.

All ages, types and races are needed, said Lisa Mae Fincannon of the casting company Fincannon & Associates.

MacDowell, who has lived here since 1998, will star as a veterinarian working in an Asheville animal hospital. The one-hour test episode will be filmed entirely in Asheville, April 9-22, said Fincannon.

Report: Tape clears Ryder

Los Angeles  A surveillance tape of Winona Ryder’s shopping spree that led to shoplifting charges does not show the actress using scissors to clip security tags from merchandise, as prosecutors have alleged, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Ryder, who was arrested Dec. 12 at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, was charged in February with felony counts of theft, burglary, vandalism and possession of a pain reliever without a prescription.

At the time the charges were filed, the district attorney’s office issued a news release quoting police as saying Ryder had been seen on a closed-circuit camera using scissors to clip security tags from merchandise.
