KU Green Party to have political information fair

The Kansas University Green Party on Thursday will have a community political information fair at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The fair will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the auditorium. It is designed to encourage civic involvement and political awareness, party representatives said.

Invited to set up information tables were representatives from local political parties and activist groups. Lawrence City and Douglas County commissioners will be available to visit. Also available will be information about voter registration and state representative contact information.

Arbor Day Foundation giving out free trees

The National Arbor Day Foundation will give 10 white flowering dogwood trees to each new member who joins the foundation through March 31.

The free trees are part of the nonprofit foundation’s Trees for America campaign.

The trees will be shipped free of charge at the right time for planting, which is between March 1 and May 31, with enclosed planting instruction. The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free of charge.

New members also receive a subscription to “Arbor Day,” the foundation’s monthly publication, and “The Tree Book” with information about tree planting and care.

Membership costs $10, and money may be sent to Ten Free Dogwood Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, Neb. 68410, by March 31.
