UAB’s Bartow resigns

Birmingham, Ala. Â Murry Bartow resigned as basketball coach at Alabama-Birmingham on Monday after failing to lead the Blazers to the postseason for the third straight year. Bartow, who succeeded his father, Gene, as head coach at UAB, had a 103-83 record in six seasons. He was 44-45 the past three years. UAB is coming off the worst season in its 24-year history, going 13-17 and losing in the first round of the Conference USA tournament.

Prairie View fires coach

Prairie View, Texas  Prairie View A&M dismissed coach Elwood Plummer and his staff on Monday. In 18 seasons at Prairie View, Plummer compiled a record of 153-377, including 10-20 overall and 8-10 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season. Plummer guided Prairie View to its first SWAC tournament title and the school’s first NCAA Tournament in 1997-98.
